Wednesday – restore my soul

7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. – John 10:7-10

Pasture – what does this word conjure in your mind? For me, it’s a peaceful, grassy field, where animals are free to wander and graze. There might be some trees for shade to rest under, or a creek running through it for water. Overall it’s a picture of peace – serenity.

In Psalm 23 it says “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.”

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get tired of the constant striving. The idea of finding this peace – having my soul restored – is a relief. And we’re told we can find that in Jesus.

What do you strive after? Do you ever find it gets in the way of you finding peace? Spend a few moments picturing this pastoral scene and the peace that you can have in Jesus.

Sit and meditate on God – listen to what he wants to say to you through this. Respond to him in prayer. Ask him for the peace that comes through Jesus
