Thursday – thieves and robbers

7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. – John 10:7-10

Twice in this short passage, Jesus talks about thieves and robbers, and what they come to do. If it is only through Jesus that we are saved and have life to the full, then all else comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

We find it easy to get distracted by things that aren’t Jesus. What are these things for you? Think about how you might be listening to the promises these things offer you, instead of what Jesus is offering you. Yesterday’s Grow Daily, looked at this idea of finding peace in Jesus. How do the things that distract you from Jesus contribute to striving and noise in your life?

Sit and meditate on God – listen to what he wants to say to you through this. Respond to him in prayer. Ask him to help you discern when you’re being distracted from listening to Jesus, and help you refocus on the peace and fullness he offers you.
