25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
When Jesus asked Martha if she believes the claim that Jesus makes in his “I Am” statement, she replies that she believes he is the Messiah, the Son of God come into the world.
What does this passage mean for how we live now? “… whoever lives by believing in me will never die”. What does it mean to live by believing in him?
Believing in Jesus implies a personal and genuine trust in what he has done. Do you trust that his death and resurrection has made you right with God, that you will have eternal life with him? If the answer is yes, then our lives now need to reflect that we believe he is the Messiah, the Son of God. If you’re not quite sure, spend a few minutes reflecting on what is stopping you believing this fully. Maybe bring this before God, or talk to a trusted Christian friend.
During the last few months of isolation there have been lots of stories of death and sickness, and a lot of anxiety and fear. Spend a few minutes reflecting how your life might have shown others that your trust and hope is in Jesus?
Spend some time with God. Sit in the quiet and listen for what he might be saying to you. Respond to him in prayer.
