Tuesday – Who gets the glory?

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

We watched American Gospel a few weeks ago. If you haven’t seen it, it is the first part of a documentary series that looks at the Faith Healing, and Prosperity Gospel movements in America, and holds it up to the truth of the bible.

One of the guys interviewed – David – had this to say:

“I wanted to make my lifestyle about glorifying myself; by making me look like some super Christian that goes around heals people all the time… But now I realise it’s not about me, it’s all about God. Give God all the glory.”

In this passage, Jesus tells us that he is the resurrection and life, to bring eternal life to those that believe. Jesus doesn’t heal people for any reason other than to bring a full and eternal life to those that trust him – not glorifying us, but glorifying the Father in heaven.

Are there times when you’re tempted to do things to show people how good you are? Spend some time with God. Sit in the quiet and listen for what he might be saying to you. Respond to him in prayer. Ask him for help to always seek His glory.
