There are some people who are just great to be around. Who in your life is good company?

Acts 2:40-47

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Cross, Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, Daily Devotion, Company

We probably all know somebody who is just good company. That person energises you, makes you smile, is there for you, and maybe unconsciously reminds you of the love of Jesus.

Israel was called to be God’s people. Among many nations that didn’t know God, they were meant to point the way to Him. In Peter’s epic speech at Pentecost, he reminds them that out of God’s people came the ultimate best company embodied in a Person, God with us, the Messiah, Jesus.

Now through His Spirit, we can all be God’s people and all be in the company of Christ. This reflects throughout our lives, not just during church – in the temple courts, but also when breaking bread – eating, working, learning, playing, in our homes, in our offices, in our schools, in our sports clubs.

As the early church gathered in gladness and sincerity and praising God, they became good company. They found favour with all people, and this made way for God to draw many into His company.

So, let us be the people that energise others by our sincerity and wholehearted approach to life. Let our gladness make others smile. And let us, in all that we do, praise God, demonstrating the inestimable company of the presence of Jesus.

Let us be winsome that we may win some.

Head: What makes me glad in the company of other? How can I make others glad in the same way while pointing to Jesus?

Heart: How can I have a sincere heart towards God, and those being drawn to Him?

Hands: What times of ‘breaking bread’ today can I see as opportunities to be good company to those around me?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love that has drawn us into your company. Please help me be the way that others can see that love. Please help me be good company, somebody others want to be around. Not for my glory, but so that Jesus may be seen. In His precious name, and with thanks for the ever-present company of the Spirit. Amen
