The book of Numbers hardly has an inspiring title and yet it is an account of leadership, perseverance and the question of faith: will God get his people to the promised land? The people of God have left slavery but have not yet managed to reach the goal of their journey. They experience temptation both within the camp and from the outside. This is a book of talking donkeys, plagues, snakes that heal and spies. As disciples of Jesus who have been saved already, but not yet received our inheritance of the promised new creation, this is an essential book for us to study and learn from.
