Rest – Half Alive ft. Samm Henshaw

How can we truly work as a slave of Christ, if we don’t allow ourselves to rest and dwell in Gods glory? To serve the Lord when we work, we need to first have strength. Physical strength, mental strength and strength in our relationship with God.

Rest doesn’t just mean not working, rest should be purposeful and spiritual. Every once in a while, we need to stop, breathe, look around and listen to God.

My favourite way to rest is to listen to God’s beauty through song. I love actively listening to every part of a song, to find God speaking through the rhythm, melodies and lyrics.

Being overwhelmed in awe of God in music and nature allows me to rest, and that rest allows me to be closer to Him. For me it doesn’t have to be especially a worship song, because God is in everything. The band Half Alive who wrote the song Rest aren’t a “Christian band”,  however they write with a Christian worldview, and if you listen carefully you can hear the Glory of God sprinkled in their work.

Sometimes it’s actively seeking those glimpses of God in the business of the world, that will help our posture for serving the Lord and not others.

I encourage you to actively seek Gods beauty, in whatever form that may look like. Maybe you could read, paint, go outside, cook or spend time with people you love. When you do – breathe, look around and thankfully pray.

Let this be a reminder to allow yourself to stop and rest so that you can be filled with strength to do great work.

Practicing purposeful rest will help us to have the right posture to work as slaves of Christ.
