32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
John 6:32-34
Do you often say “Sir, always give me this bread” when faced with a decision between Jesus and the things of this world?
The things of the world – the material comfort, the relationships, the career – often make us feel good… for a little while. But how often do we turn around only to chase after the next thing? We’re told here the bread of God is the bread that gives life – the one thing we won’t turn around from to chase the next feel good fix. And we have been given this ultimate satisfaction in Jesus. This is what we should be chasing.
What would it look like to stop chasing after earthly things, and grasp hold of this life-giving bread from God. Try asking God to give you a heart that says “Sir, always give me this bread”.
Sit and meditate on God – listen to what he wants to say to you through this. Respond to him in prayer.
