Do you rely on God’s guidance in your life?

Psalm 8

For the director of music. According to gittith. A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honour.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Lord is the creator of the universe. Vast. Beautiful. Intricate.

He is also our father who created us. He didn’t stop creating until there were humans in the world; and each human born, and the ones to be born, had their own perfect plan drawn up for them by a loving and kind Father.

He is our father who has already been protecting us from the enemy and his schemes. He is our father who already loves us—so much that any evil against us makes Him weep.

He lifts us up much higher than we could lift ourselves, like a child onto a high shelf, and gives us power and authority far beyond our deserving. This is an authority that we do not always know how to wield well. He gave it to us, because He designed us to have the backing of the Creator who would guide us and teach us how to steward and rule well.

I look at issues of stewardship – of money, the environment, of people less fortunate – and wonder how the Lord expects me to help? What I can do? He says I have authority, that I have been crowned with glory and honour – but what can I do with all this?

The Lord is majestic, he wouldn’t hang us out to dry.

When is God ever without a plan? When has God ever let us crawl further than He can see? We are His children and He is our good father – His name is great and he will be our guide. All we need to do is ask Him for direction. He delights in us seeking His hand.

Head: How do you rely on God currently to steward your authority and power well?

Heart: IF you are being completely honest with yourself, what are some areas of your fortunate life that you don’t rely on God’s guidance for?

Hands: What are some practical ways you can seek God’s guidance in these areas?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Thank you that you created us and loved us despite our sin. Thank you that you decided to give us authority and power over some of your creation. I’m sorry for when I choose not to rely on your guidance. I’m sorry for when I steward your blessings poorly. I’m sorry for when I choose worldly things over heavenly things. Please forgive me. Please help me to steward things in my control in a more godly way. Amen.
