Family Growth Term 3 2018

Week 7 -Recognising Jesus

Big idea

Jesus’ power to more than satisfy our needs shows that he is God’s true king.

Bible passage

Luke 9 :10-20

You will need

Something for the growth group to eat – enough to satisfy

Food items from your kitchen or pantry – enough to make a large pile of food items

A washing basket or large bucket or similar sized container

All Ages Activity

Allow the group to eat while the bible passage is being read.

Ensure that once everyone has finished eating they are all satisfied

Pack any leftover food and the pantry items into the washing basket you have

Get everyone to look at the one full basket and imagine how much food would fit into 12 baskets

Discussion:

Most of us have been on a hike in the bush and felt how hot, tired and hungry you can get after a day walking in the sun. This is probably very similar to how the people following Jesus were feeling. Jesus had the power to satisfy the needs of every single hungry person that was with him that day. Not only satisfy, but more than satisfy, in that there were 12 baskets of food left over after everyone had their fill.

It is not humanly possible to multiply bread and fish, by feeding these people Jesus revealed his Godly power to satisfy our needs. We have many needs apart from food and we often spend a lot of money and time trying out things that we think will give us satisfaction.  Jesus showed us that he is the one who sees our need and he is the one who can give us full satisfaction.

Prayer idea

Dear Lord

Thank you that we can come to you when we feel empty, hungry and tired. Please fill us up to overflowing as you did with the people who were with you that day. Please give us the courage to share the good news of your amazing love with others.

In Jesus Name

Amen
