12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Wow! Greater works than Jesus and prayers answered. That is quite an assurance from our Lord. This is not a call for us to be power hungry. Instead he is telling us that we have great power at work in and through our lives. He has shown us breathtaking mercy and love in his saving work. He is talking here of God’s spectacular use of sinful people to spread this good news of Jesus to many others; not many came to faith while Jesus was on earth. He is also talking of the God glorifying transformations in the lives of his people. What glorious power from God has been unleashed when a selfish, sinful person loves another, because of love for Jesus. How wonderful it is that sinful people can now be indwelt and directed by the Holy Spirit himself. As you face today, remember who you are as a believer in Jesus. You may be used to perform the greatest of miracles by leading another to Jesus. Your every inclination to serve God is a source of wonder and praise because it is from the transforming love of God. He even allows you to participate in his great works through your prayers.
You may have a troubled heart, but Jesus’ message is don’t be troubled, because you are a spectacular work in progress and even in your unfinished form you are bringing great glory to God.
