I have to be honest I was a bit disappointed to be allocated these verses. It would have been easier to focus on the positive verses that are to follow. However I am reminded that sin is real and it must not be overlooked. Aren’t we often tempted to avoid concentrating on the sin aspect and to move swiftly on? Wherever we are in our journey of faith sin still needs to be considered.
Eph. 2:1-3
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

These verses remind us, if we have found faith that we first came from a place of wrath. By living in sin, we were living a life rejecting God and being cut off from him following our desires and not his. In Romans we are reminded that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). This tells us ALL. Yes, we were sinners, for sin is when we rejected God and followed our own pathway and ignored his part in it. Yet we have been saved and restored from that wrath. Do we live as if we are? Ephesians is a challenge to all of us as to how to live for Christ to reject the sin that once took hold. Let us not just pass over these verses but think upon them both in terms of where we have come from (and be thankful) but also if there are sins that we are aware of that still trap us, please pray. It is never too late for his forgiveness and to live in his freedom as children of the light.
Prayer: LORD help us each day to live as children of the light. To reject sin which should have no hold on us. If it does take hold LORD, then we ask that you may reveal it to us and help us be honest and be renewed in your forgiveness and in your continual love. AMEN
