A great way to ‘Love My Church’ is to join and commit to a Growth Group. Here are 5 reasons why-
1. To grow your servant heart.
Are you looking to build your understanding of God? Are you ready to be challenged in how you see and feel the world? Are you ready to get your hands dirty in serving God and others? …do you need to be loved? Growth Group takes what we learn on a Sunday into the crucible of our everyday experience. You will be challenged in the way you think, but even more so, in the way you participate within community as we love and care for each other through the highs and lows of life. It’s the way we relate with others (and those unlike ourselves!) in love that really grows our heart to be more like Jesus.
The disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, sharing our faith, and love don’t come easy, and are far from our default. We will not drift into them by doing nothing. Committing to a Growth Group means adopting a weekly routine of doing these together as we remember who God is, who we are, and what we are doing. The Christian life was never meant to be walked alone.
3. You need others.
Our new identity in Christ means we are adopted into his family of believers. This family is filled with people of different experiences, gifts and personalities, for us all to benefit from. We need other people to ask us hard questions, to encourage us, to love us, and to help us if we are to grow our servant hearts. We experience God’s grace and love to us through his people.
4. Others need you.
Growth Group is an opportunity not just to consume, but also to serve. In the same way that you need others to grow, others need you!
5. We reach out well as a team.
Those outside our church family are given a glimpse of what God is like through the way we treat each other. In contrast to going solo, inviting friends and family to be a part of the life of our group gives them a taste of how God’s people treat and love each other.
I would encourage you to consider joining and committing to a Growth Group as a next step to ‘Love my Church’.
