The truth of the Gospel is for all to hear and be a part of.

Eph. 3:6-7

6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. 7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power

Many people love a good mystery show or book. Sherlock, CSI, Doctor Who, Stranger things. We often get drawn to these mystery-based genres because there’s nothing quite like the thrill of finding out the truth at the end. It’s like a huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders, we feel a sense of relief and (generally) joy when we find out the resolution to the questions that fill our mind of ‘who, how, why?’

Paul, in this chapter, not only talks about a great mystery but also reveals a liberating truth to this mystery. In the Old Testament, and even during the early days of Jesus’ ministry we read about prophecies about a Saviour who would one day make all things right. Who was that going to be? How were they going to do that?

Paul reveals a stunning revelation to this mystery in this verse. Through the Gospel, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God’s grace, love and mercy has been made available to all people, Jew or Gentile. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, anyone who comes to him can share in the inheritance of the Heavenly Kingdom. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done or where we have come from, God, who created all things, has made His love and grace available to all people.

What then do we do with this? Like Paul, we need to help others to resolve the mystery of who Jesus is, what he has done for us and why he has done that. We need to share the Gospel with all people so that we can all share in the joy of knowing His love and mercy together.

Prayer: Heavenly Father,

Thank you that you are a God of love and mercy. Thank you that you sent your one and only son to be the ultimate sacrifice for us so that all people, regardless of what we have done or where we are from, can share in the inheritance of your Heavenly Kingdom.

We are sorry for the times that we take for granted the significance of the message of the Gospel. Help us to dwell in the joy of knowing that because of Jesus’ death and resurrection we can share in the joy of knowing your love and mercy. And let that joy spur us to share the Gospel with those around us so that more can come to experience the joy of being your children and can share in the inheritance of your Heavenly Kingdom.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.
