I greatly appreciate the modern songs we sing at our Sunday gatherings each week.  The contemporary music and words are a reminder that Christianity is for the here and now and not something archaic.  If music seems too culturally distant then it makes Sunday an escape from life and not an equipping for life.  Most of what we sing also has a strong focus on Christ and his saving work.  The clear gospel statements mean that when the music lingers in our minds through the week, we remember we are saved, privileged people who are to express our love for God through serving.

Other music, while not necessarily suitable for Sunday gatherings, can lift our hearts in awed praise of God or challenge our complacent attitudes to the problems of our age.  Below are links to two pieces of music.  One is very old and will stir praise to our majestic Lord.  The other, about 50 years old, is focused on America but has challenges to our materialistic lifestyles – think carefully about how it concludes and its relevance to our current dilemmas.
