Mark 16:4 – 5

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

While the women were mulling over how the stone at the tomb could be moved, they discovered that it had already been rolled away.  Entering the tomb, they didn’t find Jesus’ dead body, but an angelic young man clothed in white.  Their expectations were totally reversed, and they were amazed; not least because their very sincere plan to serve Jesus in his death was now redundant.

Despite Jesus’ assurances that he would die and rise again, the band of his followers did not understand what he meant.  His death seemed such a defeat for their King.  All their expectations were now challenged.  The gloom of the preceding days was over, and death itself had been defeated.

Instead of the stench of death they were confronted with life and purity, and this is without even seeing Jesus himself.  Whatever depressing disappointments they held were now swept away by the resurrection of Jesus.

The disappointments of our lives are similarly overcome by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Has your life been full of disappointments?  Always remember that the resurrection of Jesus means that your life so far is only a tiny fragment of the glorious life he has won for you.
