6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light – Ephesians 5:6 – 8

In reading these verses I have been struck again how this book of Ephesians is full of wisdom. Simple, direct truths that are transformational. Today we are challenged again to not be deceived with the empty words of others. Don’t open yourselves up to be vulnerable to empty promises and false offers which can appear so tempting at first glance. For surface views can be deceiving.
How do we protect ourselves and guard against deception? The same is true again – submit to God daily for the renewing of our minds so that we can be armed and ready to discern what words are good and what are empty. I think of my mum’s guidance to me from a young age she would often repeat these words from the book of Philippians:
‘Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.’
By thinking of ‘such things’ our minds will direct us to live as children of the light, dearly loved and greatly cherished.
