This week we’ve seen the way Jesus suffered – the humiliating walk to the cross, the mocking from onlookers, not to mention the crucifixion itself.  Sometimes we can’t come close to imagining this suffering and other times we feel like we’re in our own ‘living hell’.  I came across a song last year that really spoke to me at the time.  It’s called ‘Hallelujah Even Here’ by Lydia Baird and speaks to how, no matter what we’re going through, we can still praise God and call out to him.  The honesty of the song, with lines such as ‘right now I don’t feel like it is well with my soul’, is refreshing.  My favourite line is ‘sometimes nothing left to give becomes the sweetest offering, and sometimes choosing just to sing is the thing that changes everything’.

Music is a powerful way of connecting with our feelings, but also with God.  I encourage you to listen to this song today.  It might not resonate with your current circumstances, but maybe the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, you can come back to it and sing along as your prayer to our loving heavenly Father.
