Are there times when you haven’t had the courage to speak up about Jesus?
Luke 6:1-5
One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels. 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
Recently I downloaded an app called Word of the Day. Today’s word was ‘Martinet’ – a strict disciplinarian; someone who insists on absolute adherence to rules. In this passage, Jesus confronts the Martinets of Sabbath Law. He asserts himself as Lord of the Sabbath, with the authority to overrule the laws of the Sabbath. This was a provocative move because the Pharisees would have seen it as blasphemy. Yet it was the truth.
I know that there have been times in my life when I have not spoken up about God’s truth because I was afraid of a negative response from my audience. But why should I be afraid of telling the truth? I pray for courage to witness to others that they may come to know the truth of God.
Head: Are there times when you have lacked the courage to share the truth of God with others?
Heart: Be encouraged that Jesus knows your heart and the hearts of those around you. He can use you to reveal his truth in ways you may not be aware of.
Hands: When we demonstrate Jesus’ love by our actions, God uses those ‘seeds’ to plant his truth into the hearts of others. What are some actions you can do today that will display God’s love to others?
Prayer: Father, thank you for your divine truth that is Jesus. Please help me to have the courage to share your truth with those who don’t yet know you.
