Living Church Data Collection & Privacy Statement

1. INTRODUCTION

Hi there! Thanks for taking an interest in how we handle your information here at Living Church. We recognise the importance of protecting your privacy and want to assure you that we will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is protected from misuse or unauthorised disclosure in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act).

Living Church is an individual congregation within the Presbyterian Church of Queensland (PCQ) and PCQ’s privacy policy applies to us.

The key principles behind our collection statement and PCQ’s privacy policy are:

a) To ensure that you understand that your information is collected with your permission, and what we do – and do not do – with it.

b) Explain the way we use your information in order to pastorally love and care for you as we seek to see you grow as a wholehearted follower of Jesus.

Please read this collection statement carefully as it will have important consequences for you in relation to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information you share to Living Church.

 

2. COLLECTION

Our primary means of collecting your information is through our church management system, Elvanto. By providing information for the New Person form on Elvanto you have voluntarily provided us with your personal information, and consented to us collecting that information from you, and storing and using it in accordance with this policy and the Privacy Act.

We may also collect personal information from you when you contact or interact with one of our staff, and from social media sites as made available by your own security settings.

The types of personal information collected by Living Church may include, but is not limited to:

  • Contact information: such as your full name, preferred name, mailing or street addresses, email address, phone number/s.
  • Additional personal information: such as your gender, date and place of birth, dates of baptism or marriage, Blue Card (working with children) number, or result of your working-with-children check.
  • Enquiry information: your contact information and the details of your enquiry, including any additional information you may voluntarily provide.
  • Medical or health information: We may collect or become aware of sensitive information about you, such as medical details or health information.
  • Social media activity: including “likes”, posts, comments or feedback, photos posted or uploaded, and other information relating to your social media activities which concern, or relate to Living Church.
  • Surveys: information you voluntarily provide to us through surveys.

You acknowledge and agree to your personal information being collected and used for, and in connection with, the following purposes and any other purposes described in the PCQ privacy policy.

 

3. PURPOSE

Living Church uses personal information primarily for the purpose of pastorally caring for you and your family. Specifically, we collect your personal information for the purposes of:

a) our ministry and pastoral care services;

b) creating community profiles within Living Church, measuring attendance and preparing name tags;

c) responding to and providing you with information in relation to your enquiries;

d) sharing our e-newsletter and announcements to you;

e) communicating with you about upcoming events, services or other content that may be of interest to you (using direct mail, phone or email communication);

f) the administration and management of Living Church,

and you acknowledge and agree to your personal information being collected and used for, and in connection with, these purposes and any other purposes described in PCQ’s privacy policy.

If we do not collect this personal information in connection with the purposes listed above, then Living Church may be unable to provide you with our services or information or process your enquiry.

 

4. INTENDED RECIPIENTS

Your personal information is kept securely on our Church Management System called Elvanto. Their privacy policy can be viewed here.

We may disclose your personal information to the following classes of people and organisations in connection with the purposes in section 3:

a) our personnel including staff members, Board, Administration Team, Growth Group Leaders and other Ministry Team Leaders;

b) our third-party IT and other service providers who assist us in providing our ministry services or pastoral care, responding to your enquiry, communicating with you or other processes; and

c) any other person as described in the PCQ privacy policy.

We will not use or disclose any information about you outside of Living Church for any other purpose, without first obtaining your consent, other than where the use or disclosure is permitted by law.

 

5. ACCESSING YOUR INFORMATION OR MAKING A COMPLAINT

You may request access to, or to make changes or corrections and updates to your personal information held by Living Church at any time, but subject to some exceptions prescribed by law. We may require you to submit your request in writing or provide evidence of your identity, for security reasons. We may charge a fee for searching for and providing access to your information.

By providing information for our New Person form (including on paper or online at Elvanto), submitting your enquiry, or otherwise providing your personal information to Living Church, you indicate that you have read this collection statement and acknowledge that your personal information will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with it and as otherwise detailed in PCQ’s privacy policy and, to the extent it is necessary, that you give your voluntary express consent to Living Church collecting, using, storing, disclosing and disposing of your personal information in this manner.
