What do you do to stop yourself judging others?
Where do you look for power or significance?

How have you been hurt? How have you hurt others? When have you walked past others who are hurting? How do you use power? Recognise where healing, forgiveness and repentance need to happen in your life through turning to Jesus.
Let your relationships (parenting, friends, family, etc.) be shaped by our relationship with Jesus who gives us new patterns of relating to others. Grab a copy of Luke’s gospel and read through it and notice how Jesus relates to women, children and people in authority). Read it through with someone you trust.

Just like Saul before him, David has fallen as the shepherd-king and done evil in the eyes of the LORD. His house will now experience curse rather than blessing- the people have fallen with their king.
Sin makes us see everything wrongly- God ourselves and others. And we do great harm to each other with destructive consequences. In Jesus we see the good shepherd- king who shows us grace and forgiveness.
When do you trust your own insight? Admit the damage our sin causes and live in the forgiveness and care of the good shepherd. Is there someone you need to ask for forgiveness from?
See how good God has been to you and how much he has blessed you in Jesus. Who do you need to be accountable to? What friendships can you be cultivating to keep you accountable?
Get your heart sorted with God. Stop the destructive pretending and have your hands cleaned.
Pursue a life of intimacy with God. Cultivate friendships that help
you listen to God. Put your hands towards bringing blessing.
King David repeats the Fall- he sees, he desires, he takes, he covers it up. We need a king who won’t take life for himself but will give life for others.
We know deep down there’s a problem with us that needs fixing. Our attempts to deal with sin outside of Jesus will only escalate sin bringing anxiety and chaos rather than peace and rest.

David desires to build a house of God and secure his peace and blessing, but God reminds him that he is one who builds things that last. God promises that his son will build his house and that God himself will make a kingdom that will last forever.
We all want to build something that lasts. David is experiencing something he wants to last forever, but only what is built by God, through Jesus, truly lasts forever.
What are the small kingdoms that you are building in your life? Realise that the frustration you feel in life is because of the futility of these small kingdoms. Recognise that we try to establish our own security and significance somewhere.
Stop trying to establish your own security and significance like David and let God blow your mind with his extraordinarily bigger plan.
We all long for rest. Israel momentarily experiences this rest and rejoicing, but we can only experience lasting satisfaction of this longing through Jesus.
Hands Statement:FIRST Steps: Stop seeking joy and rest in distractions, temporary things, and false gods.
Practicing true rest is letting God be God. Stop trying to sign God up to build and bless your kingdom. Rest in Jesus by enjoying God’s presence, on his terms.
