As we arrive at the end of Luke’s fulfilment story we see that although we’ve been following Jesus on the way home to Jerusalem; we now see that He is our risen King, walking with us the whole way, and leading us to an even greater home… in Him.

Jesus prayer reveals the cosmic battle between God’s purposes and Satan’s schemes. Jesus stands firm, praying to his Father and showing us what it means both to ask with confidence but also to submit to God’s will, despite the cost.
As the time draws near for Jesus to fulfil his mission to be enthroned as God’s suffering King on the cross, he shares a meal with his friends; a taste both of the suffering of the cross and the joy of the kingdom to come.
The disciples wanted signs because they are anxious and wanted control. But Jesus embraced the cross and won life for us, so that we can stand firm, not be deceived, and win life.
Jesus lived the life of true integrity – his outside reflected his inside. He was the true image of God. Follower of Jesus must beware the trap of hypocrisy, of false religion, and a corrupt heart and destructive life. See that the kingdoms of this world are monstrous and hurt others. See the subtle ways we might try to “trap” Jesus for the sake of our own agenda. At some point we need to stop asking trick questions of Jesus and decide how to live.
Judgment will fall upon the leaders of Israel and the Temple, because they will kill God’s beloved son Jesus, rejecting his God given authority. Through his resurrection Jesus will become the new temple, the place where all people come to meet God – whether in salvation or judgment
