For 18 years, we have been a church focused on telling Brisbane’s east about Jesus. For the last 5 years, we’ve taken that mission to the greater South Brisbane and Springfield areas. We have been a church that aims to grow servant hearted followers of Jesus – followers of the living Saviour, holding out the living Word.
In 2019, we changed our name to Living Church to better reflect our mission to reach the city and reach the world with the life giving gospel of the living Lord Jesus. We are a community where people can find living hope – in Carina, the City South, and Springfield. We want to offer ourselves as living sacrifices. We don’t want to just attend church – we want to live church, and we want to hold out the invitation to check out the Living God. We are living church… we are Living Church.
LIFE GIVING GOD
The first pages of the Bible tell us that God is the living God who gives life to the world; that he breathes life into Adam so that we humans are ‘living beings’(Genesis 2:7); In Acts 17 when Paul speaks about our relationship to God as humans he says ‘in him we live and breathe and have our being.’
Genesis 1 and 2 show us the one true God making a beautiful world. A perfect world for us to enjoy. A perfect relationship with God for us to enjoy. Perfect relationships with each other to enjoy. Home loving and serving the one true God, and serving each other.
A LIFE GIVING STORY
Death came into the world when we turned our backs on the living God and pursued ‘dead’ idols in his place. The bible calls this choice to disconnect from God “Sin”, and pursuing this choice leads to death.
The story of the Bible is the story of how to become living again, not just now, in this world, but for eternity as new creations in a new creation. This is the story of Jesus – this is our story – Jesus died on the cross for our sins, dying our death and rising from death to give us his life.
A LIFE GIVING SAVIOUR
When after Jesus’ resurrection, the women who came to visit his grave were asked ‘why are you looking for the living among the dead’ (Luke 24) they’re not just being asked about the graveyard they’re visiting, but about the state of the world — when we put our trust in the resurrected Jesus, and receive his Spirit we become ‘the living’ in a world that is dying to know Jesus; the living amongst the dead.
It’s this life giving saviour that we invite you to check out when you join us. We invite you to check out how you fit into this life-giving story.
