Philippians 2:9-11

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Throughout scripture we hear accounts of rulers and kings, nations and empires. Each one of these had been raised up to a high place where people would look up and acknowledge the power and authority of the leadership they fell under. However, they all eventually come to an end. Earthly kingdoms have never lasted, often being destroyed under the weight of their own sin and pride.

Yet there is one King whose kingdom has never failed, a King without sin, a true King raised up by God to “the highest place.” In fact, not only is He king, but “Jesus Christ is Lord.” As well as being an admission of His deity, this also reflects his authority to rule and his sovereignty over all creation. Let us remember that however great are the rulers of the powers of the age, Christ is the ruler above all. There is peace in His sovereignty.
