Daniel 2:44
44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.
The great Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, had received a dream of a giant statue. Daniel interpreted the dream and explained that the Lord was showing him the greatness of his own kingdom of those to follow. The prophetic dream concluded with a rock, “cut without hands” crushing the whole statue.
This verse for today shows that this kingdom is from the Lord and not only destroys all others, but also is established as a kingdom that lasts forever. It will not be replaced by others nor will any harm come to it. We can see from our perspective that it clearly depicts the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There are three important implications for us from this. Firstly, no matter how intimidating the powers in the world might be, if you believe in Jesus, you will reside in his kingdom forever, long after the others have been forgotten and left in the dust bin of history. So why be intimidated by earthly powers. Secondly, as Christians see attacks on God’s kingdom by various forces, we can know that they will have no ultimate success. Thirdly, because Jesus’ kingdom will not pass on to others, we can know that we have security forever. If God is for us, who can be against us?
