At the time of writing this, Brisbane is finishing off a 3 day lock-down – announced and enforced in less than 12 hours – in an attempt to manage a strain of COVID-19 that has been causing disruption and fear around the world. So quickly our world was disrupted by one small virus. A testament to how chaotic, changing, and uncontrollable our world is.

These past few days have caused fear and anxiety in many – the state of the supermarkets shortly after the lock down was announced is testament to that – but the one thing we have to keep coming back to is that Jesus, time and time again, showed his control over the world. He was able to calm the storm, tame the wind, walk on water. He defeated death. He did that so that we can have security and peace knowing that in his resurrection, we don’t need to fear.

It’s anyone’s guess what has happened since writing this, or what will happen after reading this. But in it all Jesus’ victory is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Before you come to church today, spend some quiet time with God, give him your worries, anxieties, and fears. Ask him to help you know the peace and security only found in him.
