Today at church, live or online, you will hear a message about Daniel chapter 2. It is full of drama. A king’s weird dream, a threat to the lives of many, including Daniel and his friends, and then Daniel interprets the dream which ultimately points to the coming of Jesus. It has many of the elements of life for us in our age; the week-to-week drama, things we cannot understand and a lot of anxiety.
As we are preparing to join in that time of worshipping our Lord, it is worth reflecting on the past week and thinking about those areas of difficulty. What has troubled you? When did you feel under threat? How have you been oppressed by anxiety? Then, as we praise the Lord and hear his word to us, we can more fully appreciate the overarching reality of Jesus Christ our eternal Lord. Today can be an unbridled celebration of the mercy, love, and peace won for us by Jesus. The joy and confidence can then be taken into the new week as we face more drama, anxiety, and things we do not understand. But always with a deeper appreciation of our security in Jesus because of our time in the encouraging presence of our Lord and his people.
